POETRY – LOVE and MONEY
– Some love stories begin with simple promises: health, tenderness, a few shared dreams and the belief that everything else will somehow fall into place. Then comes the rug. After the rug, the display cabinet. After the cabinet, the bookshelf. Then the clothes, the holidays, the loans, the neighbours’ comparisons and the question that always returns, softly or sharply: love may be strong, but… what do we live on? Poetry –“Love and Money” belongs to the bittersweet side of humour: a warm domestic story about the way love, comfort, social status and money sometimes end up sitting at the same table.

Uneori, o privire îți dă viața peste cap înainte să apuci să întrebi cum scapi.
Sometimes a single glance turns your life upside down before you even ask how to escape.

At the beginning, two hearts in love believe everything else will come in time.

In a home built on love, a new rug never arrives alone.

From a dress, a cabinet and a pair of shoes, next year’s budget slowly begins to appear.

Love floats a little lower when the table is covered in bills, loans and renovation plans.

Sometimes the most honest declaration of love ends with a question about money.
O întâlnești întâia dată
Și îți dă viața peste cap
Îi cazi în mrejele întinse
Și te întrebi: "Cum fac să scap?"
Însă uiți iute întrebarea
Și nu mai cauți un răspuns,
Clipele tandre, delicioase,
Par să fie îndeajuns.
"Banii nu sunt o problemă"
O auzi spunând mereu,
"Sănătate și iubire,
Să avem. Și tu și eu."
"Celelalte-n timp le-om face,
Dacă suntem amândoi,
O căsuță, o mașină,
Un copil sau poate doi"
Te îmbie cu iubire
Și cu jocuri drăgăstoase
Prin cearceafurile care,
Acum sunt doar din mătase.
Să facă bună pereche:
"Bine-ar fi să punem jos,
Peste dușumeaua veche,
Un covor mare, pufos!"
Și iar dragostea vă-mbie
Și iar totu-i minunat,
Din persan, încet se-nalță
O vitrină lângă pat.
"Bun-ar fi, o bibliotecă
Să avem, să punem cărți,
Cu televizor în mijloc
Și oglinzi în două părți"
"Niște rochii vaporoase
Și bluzițe fistichii
Săndăluțe cu bretele
Și pantofi cu tocul cui"
"Blugii nu mai sunt la modă,
Nu mai am niciun tricou
Adidașii sunt cam nașpa
Mi-ar trebui ceva nou"
"Toată lumea se distrează,
În concedii pleacă toți:
Ba la munte, ba la mare,
Noi suntem niște netoți!"
Te înhami din nou la treabă
Și pui, iar, ban peste ban,
Căci se apropie Crăciunul
Și trecerea peste an.
Te-mprumuti și de la Bancă,
De la slujba iei bani buni;
' geaba faci grătar în week-end
Dacă n-ai și pentru luni!"
Dar iubirea-i nesfârșită
Câteodată, chiar plutești,
Altădată, însă, tună,
Când n-ai ce să cheltuiești.
"Te iubesc oricând, oriunde,
Dar să știi că nu avem
Nici cuptor cu microunde,
Nici robot de făcut gem"
Faci din nou o rată mare,
Un flic-flac financiar,
Ne-apucăm de renovare
Și să dăm din nou cu var.
Dară dragostea-i restantă ;
Dacă n-ai venit cu flori,
Ori cu fină ciocolată,
…giuvaieruri, uneori.
"Am văzut ieri la vecina,
Lustre noi și draperii,
Iar bărbatul lu' Alina,
I-a luat un Jeep, să știi! "
"Draga mea, mai ai răbdare,
Nu suntem cu toți la fel,
Unii au piciorul mare,
Alții îl au ... mititel.
Avem multe-acum de plată,
Copiii sunt la liceu,
Hai să facem o socoată
Cât câștigi tu și cât eu"
"Da, dar timpul trece într-una
Și se duc ai noștri ani,
Lângă tine-s totdeauna,
Te iubesc, da'... CEVA BANI!?!?"

ENGLISH ADAPTATION
LOVE AND MONEY
You meet her for the very first time,
And life is knocked off track;
You fall into her tender snares
And wonder, “How do I get back?”
But soon you lose that question,
No answer seems required;
Those sweet and tender moments
Are all that love desired.
“Money is not a problem,”
You hear her softly say,
“Health and love are all we need,
For us, along the way.”
“The rest will come together,
As long as we are two:
A little house, a little car,
A child, or maybe two.”
She tempts you with affection,
With games of love and grace,
Through sheets that, not so long ago,
Were simple cotton lace.
“To make the room look warmer,
Wouldn’t it be nice
To cover this old wooden floor
With something soft and nice?”
And once again love calls you,
And everything feels grand;
Then from that Persian carpet,
A cabinet takes its stand.
“A proper little bookcase
Would also do us right,
With mirrors on both sides of it
And the TV in the middle, bright.”
“Some airy summer dresses,
Some blouses with a twist,
Some sandals with thin straps, my dear,
And heels that can’t be missed.”
“These jeans are out of fashion,
My T-shirts look quite poor,
These trainers are embarrassing,
I really need some more.”
“Everyone is travelling,
They all go somewhere nice:
To mountains, sea and sunny shores,
We look like fools, not wise.”
So back you go to working,
And coin by coin you save,
For Christmas is approaching fast
And New Year starts to wave.
You borrow from the bank again,
Your wages look all right;
But what’s the use of weekend steaks
If Monday’s purse is tight?
Still, love remains eternal;
At times you almost fly.
But thunder shakes the ceiling
When there’s no cash nearby.
“I love you every hour,
I love you night and noon,
But we still have no microwave,
No jam-making machine soon.”
You sign another heavy loan,
A financial somersault;
“We’ll start the renovation now,
And paint each tired old wall.”
But love itself falls into debt
If flowers don’t appear,
Or fine expensive chocolates,
And jewels, from time to time, my dear.
“I saw the neighbour yesterday:
New chandeliers, new drapes!
And Alina’s husband bought
A Jeep, for goodness’ sake!”
“My dear, please have some patience,
Not all men stand the same;
Some walk through life with giant feet,
Some limp through smaller fame.”
“We have so much to pay for,
The children are in school;
Let’s sit and make a proper count,
What I earn, and what you pull.”
“Yes, but time keeps passing,
And all our years run fast;
I’m always here beside you, dear,
I love you... but some cash?”
